Using something oily should work as well but will attract and hold dirt possibly making the problem worse in the long. So, your John Deere Gator is getting hard to shift. It sticks in gear and you can't get it out of gear. Well, it's not the transmission, it's the AM144323 CVT clutch. The fingers on the clutch basket warp and make the clutch spider stick in the slides, causing the clutch not to release all the way when the engine is idling. The carburetor needs cleaning Remember the John Deere 6X4 Gator is for parts or repair. A used John 6X4 Gator is going for $6,500 o. Rodney | I have heard disccusion from one fellow who had trouble with the clutch on a Gator not disengaging at idle. Enable extensions for ntfs for mac work.. Is this a common problem or an isolated incident? |
M and R Hendrix | We had this problem with our 2000 Gator also. We took it back to the dealer (it happened right after we bought it) and he fixed it for us. We also have continuing problems with it fouling out spark plugs. We took it back for that too, and the dealer had the carbouretor re-jetted, adjusted the valves, and installed new spark plugs. It still fouls them out every 2 hours or so, especially if we let it sit and idle at all. You ever have that problem with yours? |
Dave | How do you tear appart the driven clutch on a 4x2 2001 gator. |
Ray | I'd also like to know how to dis-assemble a clutch on a 1996 6x4 gator. I have the cover shield off and the center bolt out but can't get any further. |
Paul Davis | Same problem here too Ray, center bolt's out and I can't go anywhere from there. The spindle is threaded in the center but I can't compress the clutch far enough to be able to rotate spindle independently. Anyone? Thanks in advance. |
kelapiesu | fouled plugs your mixture is probably to rich kawasaki engines normaily run lean.you just about always need to choke a kawa.one of the ones we have I had to pull the plastic piece off the mixture screw to turn it down an eighth of a turn more two years age its plug stopped fouling and it does not back fire as bad anymore.turn the screw in until it starts to run rough then back out a little.keep a clean air filter its paper relpace it. The cluth requires cleaning and lubrication every 50 hrs. to remove, the clutch is a interfearance fit to the shaft the threads in the clutch or for a tool designed to push shaft while pulling the clutch it takes quiet a bit of pressure and you will need a strap or chain wrench to hold the shaft between the pully surfaces. |
john | When you do a google search for : 'remove clutch from john deere kawasaki gator engine' you'll find reference to a special tool (bolt) from john deere to (presumably) push the clutch off from the crankshaft end. Before I had heard of that, I removed mine from the kawasaki in my 6x4 this way: I removed the center bolt, drilled a small indentation in the middle of the head to guide the puller. Then I carefully attached a large 3 jaw puller to the clutch, lining up the jaws with the thickest areas of the clutch. I applied heat to the center area between the two clutch faces and crossed my fingers, it came off successfully. I think the factory tool would be a much better way to do it, the 3 jaw puller puts a lot of strain on what looks like a lightly-built clutch. The disclaimer: yes, it worked for me, but it may not work for you. This is not a recommendation, just a telling of how I did this job. John |
Paul Sossong | I'm trying to find out who makes the clutch on the John Deere Gator so I can replace some roller weights. |
Thomas Barnhart | I would like to know who makes John Deer Gator clutch .So I can buy some parts THanks TOM |
Chris | I have a 1998 Gator 4x2 and I need a diagram of a clutch assembly. I don't think I have all the parts. Any help would be appreciated |
Jim | where do I purchase the bolt for removing the clutch on a John Deer gator 6x4 On online or retail(Minneapolis area) |
Raz | I just removed my clutch, was really easy. After removing the shield and center bolt from the clutch - insert a 3 inch .500 diameter unthreaded rod. Follow that up with a 9/16-18 (fine thread) x 3.00' long bolt. You can tighten the bolt manually, but the book says to use an impact wrench |
